Few people embody the spirit of McDonald’s and Ronald McDonald House like Patti Widdicombe, and she continues to set the standard of what it means to be “McFamily.”

Meet Patti Widdicombe! Her story is woven into the very roots of our founding and forever partner, McDonald’s. In 1957, Patti’s mother, Gene Widdicombe, was the first woman in Orange County to operate a McDonald’s restaurant —the 11th in the world. Sixty-eight years later, Patti carries on her family’s legacy far beyond the golden arches — it lives in the countless organizations and families she supports.

“All McDonald’s owners are a part of the local community,” Patti reflects. “A basic principle of all owners is to give back to the community where we do business as a way to thank the community for their support and because it is the right thing to do.” During the 2020 shutdown, Patti began delivering McDonald’s meals to civil service workers. What started as a way to show gratitude in a difficult time has blossomed into a tradition that continues week after week... 280 and counting!

“I’m always proud to be a McDonald’s owner. We support many nonprofits, but it is the Ronald McDonald House charity that unites us in giving,” Patti says. “We have the best people in the world as franchisees, and the ten owner/operator families that own restaurants in Orange County set the standard of excellence and caring. They truly believe in the mission of the House. We are grateful for everything we have and want to share with our neighbors to ease their way in what is the most difficult and challenging time a family can experience. It’s a privilege to serve.”

Through her leadership, generosity, and heart for families, Patti continues to set the standard of what it means to be “McFamily.” Her involvement at RMHOC has spanned from serving on our board of trustees to sponsoring rooms and events, providing Meals of Love to encouraging crews to help Round-Up for RMHC, inviting her network for tours to being a Legacy Society member and much more! Her story is not only one of legacy, but of love in action. Thank you, Patti!
