Meet Jerrette: At just 27-weeks pregnant, she gave birth to her baby girl. As a single mom, she was able to find support and community at Ronald McDonald House Orange County, when she needed it most.

“Hi! My name is Jerrette, and I am a single mommy to a beautiful baby girl named Gianna who we call Gigi. I had Gigi at 27 weeks prematurely and was told by my social worker about Ronald McDonald House.

My experience at the house was amazing! Having that support from strangers who became family through the most difficult time of my life I will never forget it. I truly met some amazing moms who were going through the exact same thing as I was. I became close with one mother that became my best friend in the house. During hard days we would make ice cream Sundays and sit at the table and just talk. We shared many times how grateful we were to have that.

I have so many memorable memories but one that stands out was when I got news that we were being discharged after 95 days. I walked back to the house from the hospital and got to share the exciting news with the RMHOC crew. To see that they genuinely care meant everything to me. They saw it all. So, it felt good being able to share that moment with them.

It means so much to me when I see others supporting RMHOC because I was once on the inside. To not have to worry about food, shelter etc. while your child is in the hospital It takes a load off your shoulders, and I am extremely grateful. Gigi is now 8 months and getting bigger and stronger everyday!

Advice I would give to families currently staying at the RMH is to take advantage of any activities or events they may have. It’s very therapeutic! You may meet someone going through the same thing as you, and they may turn into a lifetime supportive friend. I am so grateful for RMHOC. The outpouring of love that they give is felt as soon as you walk inside the doors!”
