Meet the Spinelli Family: mom Lauren, dad Sal and son Leo.
The Spinelli family, having already spent one month hospitalized at UCI before baby Leo was born prematurely at 27 weeks, wasn't sure what was to come next as they were two hours away from their home in Temecula. “We couldn't bear the idea of being so far away while he was in such a critical condition. He was resuscitated twice at birth and courageously faced a PDA heart condition, brain bleed, and the many challenges preterm babies must overcome to finally go home,” shared mom. Mom and dad felt as if their world got flipped upside down, experiencing a loss of control, and not knowing where to go from here.

With the help of a social worker, the Spinellis were introduced to Ronald McDonald House Orange County (RMHOC), where they found their home away from home, staying for the next 64 days. “[RMHOC] provided us with a clean, comfortable place to stay, meals, and unwavering support... providing the stability we needed so we could focus entirely on being by Leo's side,” recalls Lauren.
Now, whenever they see others giving their support for RMHOC, it means so much to their family, “Especially since we never imagined we’d find ourselves staying at a Ronald McDonald House.” 7 years later, their gratitude for the support they received at the House has carried on. “We have made an effort to try to participate in the Walk for Kids and prepare meals around Leo’s birthday,” shared mom.

Thankful for all the kindness they experienced, the Spinellis want to encourage other families going through difficult times. “This journey may feel dark at times, but hold on—light will find its way. The kindness at RMHOC will help carry you, and the small moments of comfort and connection will make all the difference.”
