Maven Executive Search has been engaged to lead the search for the new Senior Director of Development (SDoD) at Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California. This position will report to the Chief Executive Officer.
Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California (RMHCSC or the Chapter) is located in Los Angeles. We convey our mission through our programs, which include seven Ronald McDonald Houses in Bakersfield, Inland Empire, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Orange County, Pasadena and Westside Los Angeles. We operate three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms at CHOC Children's Hospital in Orange, CHOC Children's at Mission Hospital and one at Ventura County Medical Center. We are one of the only Ronald McDonald House Charities chapters across the world that operates a cost-free, medically supervised camp for children with cancer and their families, Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times. Our dynamic community thrives on teamwork, collaboration, trust, and mutual support.
RMHCSC is a $20 million nonprofit organization led by a dynamic and engaged volunteer fiduciary Board of Directors. Each Ronald McDonald House and Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times is overseen by its own Executive Director and advisory Board of Directors. These leaders report to the Chapter, which is managed by a CEO who in turn reports to the fiduciary Board.
As RMHCSC continues to pursue its vision for growth, the organization is now poised to hire its first SDoD for the Chapter who will be a senior member of the Chapter team. This innovative new leader’s primary role is to support the Chief Executive Officer in developing a comprehensive work plan to engage major gift donors and support Executive Directors in their fundraising growth. This outward-facing leader will focus on cultivating, soliciting, and closing major gifts while strategically leveraging the CEO, Board and Executive Directors (EDs) in high-level donor engagement.
Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities:
- Research prospective major gift donors and provide CEO with prospect research profiles and briefings.
- Manage a portfolio of 70 top prospects and donors and track activities, notes and strategies in Raiser’s Edge.
- Research and qualify high-level donor prospects to build out a portfolio of 25 donors for the CEO.
- Partner with program leadership on six- and seven-figure gift opportunities where appropriate, identifying where CEO presence and support will enhance cultivation and solicitation efforts.
- Partner with the CEO to strategically leverage her for high-level donor cultivation and solicitation.
- Lead stewardship of Chapter corporate partners, build on existing relationships to maximize revenue in support of multiple RMHCSC programs.
- Oversee the Sr. Advancement Manager in ensuring accurate donor database and appropriate tracking and accounting of gifts and donor records.
- In collaboration with the CEO, establish guidelines and metrics for Chapter development team annual goals.
- Partner with the CEO to cultivate philanthropy across the RMHCSC Board of Directors, ensuring alignment with fundraising priorities.
- Prepare regular reports on fundraising activities and progress towards goals for the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Demonstrate ability to work with other staff and volunteers in a collaborative and compassionate manner.
- Build long-term relationships and stewardship strategies with individual donors, foundations, and key stakeholders.
- Act as a brand steward, upholding RMHC Global brand standards and consistency in all projects.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree with seven years of fundraising experience at a nonprofit, with a strong focus on major gifts, or any appropriate combination of education and experience.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and relationship-building skills. Experience working closely with a CEO/ Executive Directors in donor cultivation and solicitations.
- Strategic thinker with a results-driven mindset.
- Excellent communication abilities; persuasive writer and speaker.
- General knowledge of office management; knowledge of fundraising platforms and database systems.

Compensation:
This position offers a base salary of $120,000 to $140,000 plus bonus and comprehensive benefits, based upon qualifications and experience.
