Pay Rate: $17.50 / hour
Seasonal Employment Dates: June 17 – August 16

Facility Description:
Apple Canyon Center is a year-round camp and conference facility in Southern California on 60 acres in the San Jacinto Mountains near Idyllwild. Surrounded by the National Forest at 4,500 ft. elevation, the site was originally built in the 1930s. It is presently the home of (and operated by) “Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times,” a camping program that serves children with cancer and their families. The facility has a capacity of 200 and serves not only the Good Times programs but is also open to outside user groups.


Job Summary:
This position will provide grounds maintenance and landscaping for the 60-acre site.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mow, edge, and trim landscaped areas using power grounds equipment, such as large power mowers and weed eaters.
  • Blow off all clippings and debris from the Camp road, activity tent, cabin & building porches, and front of the Dining Hall using a power blower.
  • Basic Plant and Tree maintenance and care (irrigation and trimming)
  • Maintain landscaping of program areas, including weeding, removing downed branches, and spreading woodchips
  • General Pond Maintenance and Care (removing weeds in and around the pond, assisting with treating the pond)

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and guests.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other job-related hazards.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
  • Ability to assess appropriate personal behavior.
  • Physical ability to work in exposed outdoor environments.
  • Physical strength to lift, carry, and use tools and supplies up to 25 pounds throughout the work site.

  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Willingness and ability to work in a drug-free and tobacco-free environment.

Language Skills:
Ability to read and interpret bills and work proposals. Ability to effectively share information and respond to questions from all Camp constituencies.


Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate basic figures and amounts.
