Salary Range: $80,000 - $95,000
Position Summary
The Director of Development's primary responsibility is to lead and execute a comprehensive development strategy that supports our mission and organizational goals of the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House (LBRMH). This position reports directly to the Executive Director and provides vital partnership to the Executive Director to collaboratively drive fundraising results. This role will oversee individual, corporate, and foundation giving, develop and implement an annual development plan, and lead our communications and marketing efforts to enhance the visibility and impact of the House.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position shall include but is not limited to the following:
Development Department Leadership
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to set short- and long-term fundraising and communications strategies aligned with the House's mission and vision and the RMHCSC Strategic Plan.
- Lead and manage a team of four: Special Events Manager, Development Associate, Volunteer Manager, and Marketing Communications Coordinator, fostering a strong and collaborative team culture.
- Working collaboratively with the Executive Director, develop and execute an annual development plan, including goals, strategies, and metrics for success across all fundraising channels and marketing efforts.
- Provide leadership and oversight to the Development Team for two major annual fundraising events to engage donors and community stakeholders.
Corporate Giving & Sponsorships
- Serve as the primary driver of corporate gifts and sponsorships, cultivating relationships with corporate partners to align their goals with the needs of the House.
- Identify new opportunities for corporate partnership and integrate corporate donors into events and initiatives to grow and sustain giving levels.
Foundation Grants
- Lead efforts to secure and manage foundation grants, maintaining and building relationships with current foundation partners while identifying new grant opportunities.
- Oversee the preparation of grant applications and reports to ensure alignment with funders' goals and expectations.
Individual Giving
- Oversee individual giving, including major gifts, annual fund campaigns, and donor stewardship programs.
- Create and manage a portfolio of individual donors, cultivating relationships collaboratively with the Executive Director through personalized engagement, stewardship, and recognition.
- Plan and host cultivation and stewardship events to engage current and prospective donors.
Marketing and Communications Oversight
- Develop and oversee strategic marketing and communications to promote fundraising initiatives, donor impact stories, and the overall mission of the House.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Communications Coordinator to create compelling materials, campaigns, and messaging for diverse audiences.
Organizational Collaboration
- Partner with the Executive Director and other team members to ensure alignment and collaboration across the organization.
- Oversee the use of the Raiser’s Edge database systems to track and analyze donor and prospect activity, generating reports to support decision-making.
- Ensure compliance with budgeting, accounting standards, and RMHCSC organizational policies.
- Inform and align with fundraising and marketing best practices developed by the RMHCSC chapter team.

Education, Work Experience, Knowledge, and Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree with at least five (5) years of individual giving experience in a large development team environment, including donor prospect identification, cultivation, stewardship, proposals, and recognition. Alternatively, any appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Proven experience raising significant funds in a nonprofit setting with a minimum $2 million organizational budget.
- Demonstrated success in leading and managing a comprehensive development operation, including direct experience with individual, corporate, and foundation fundraising.
- Experience supervising a team, preferably consisting of at least four direct reports.
- Knowledge and experience using fundraising software and CRM systems, with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT preferred.
- Familiarity with the local philanthropic community and a proven ability to build and leverage relationships with donors, partners, and sponsors.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines effectively.
- Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to create compelling donor presentations, proposals, and materials.
- Proficiency in fundraising systems and data analysis to inform strategy and improve performance.
- Creative problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.
- General knowledge and experience with office management practices, fundraising platforms, and database systems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, staff, donors, and the general public.
- Keen financial acumen, with strong attention to detail and the ability to present recommendations in both oral and written formats.

Language Skills
Ability to read, write and/or interpret general business documents and correspondence reports, and procedure manuals. Must be able to read and interpret information in English. Strong communication and presentation skills in both oral and written forms. Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from diverse groups, including managers, clients, board members, families, and the general public. Ability to present facts and recommendations clearly and concisely. Candidates with multi-language skills are encouraged to apply. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
Mathematical and Computer Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, percentages, and commissions. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Outlook. Strong knowledge of Excel. Knowledge and use of donor screening software, Classy and Classy Live, Raiser Edge/NXT, and other fund development software, preferred. Familiarity with social media platforms, Hootsuite, and Constant Contact is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities: LBRMH Development Team.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid California Driver's License and a clean driving record are required to operate company vehicles, as needed, for donor visits, speaking engagements, offsite meetings, or special events.
