The Long Beach Ronald McDonald House (LBRMH) marked a major milestone with the 10th Annual A Few Good Men and Women Gala on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, held in the elegant Pacific Ballroom at the Long Beach Arena. The unforgettable evening united community leaders and dedicated supporters in a dazzling celebration of philanthropy, all to further the LBRMH’s vital mission: providing comfort, care, and support to families with critically ill children.
Graciously presented by the Ackerman Family/Evalyn Bauer Foundation, Temple Family Charitable Foundation, and Molina/Rudy Family Fund, this signature event drew nearly 800 guests and raised more than $1 million to support the House’s mission.
Proceeds from the Gala directly benefit the families who rely on the Long Beach Ronald McDonald House, a core program of Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California (RMHCSC). The funds raised ensure that families with critically ill or injured children can stay together, close to the specialized medical care their child needs. These resources provide essential services, such as comfortable accommodations, nourishing meals, and compassionate care, allowing families to focus entirely on their child’s health and well-being. Thanks to the generosity of Gala sponsors, underwriters, and attendees, LBRMH will continue to offer a nurturing haven where families find strength and support during some of life’s most challenging moments.
This year’s Gala was particularly special, as it celebrated the remarkable achievements of ten distinguished honorees from the greater Long Beach area. Historically recognizing only men, this year’s event—led by co-chairs Sofia Riley and Richard A. Neri, along with the Gala Committee—expanded to honor both men and women, highlighting their extraordinary contributions to the community. Each honoree was celebrated for their significant philanthropic impact, reinforcing the mission of LBRMH and shining a spotlight on the essential role they play in transforming lives. This year's honorees included Dr. Sharifa Batts, Michele Dobson, Anthony Gagliardi, Bryna Kane, M.D., Katherine Keesal, Steven Keesal, Braden J. Phillips, Lynne Pillsbury, Kevin M. Tiber, and Arline Walter. Their dedication and commitment serve as a beacon of inspiration and embody the spirit of giving that defines this cherished event.
Guests enjoyed an exclusive red-carpet experience, beginning with a signature cocktail reception featuring delectable hors d’oeuvres and culminating in an exciting silent auction. Auction items included rare, one-of-a-kind treasures such as a signed Travis Kelce helmet, a guitar autographed by Taylor Swift, and luxurious getaway packages, all of which offered guests the chance to create unforgettable memories while supporting a meaningful cause.
