Position Summary
The Special Events Manager is responsible for leading the Development Department’s Events Team in executing revenue-generating fundraising events that benefit the Inland Empire Ronald McDonald House (IERMH), especially the House’s three annual Signature Events. Reporting to the Development Director, and working alongside other IERMH Staff and Special Events Committees, the incumbent will lead the Events Team in the planning, budgeting, coordination, and execution of successful fundraising events.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position shall include but is not limited to the following:
Annual Fundraising
- Working with the Development Team, assisting in preparation and implementation of an annual fundraising plan with goals, strategies, and objectives.
- In conjunction with the Development Director and Special Events Coordinator, establish a special events calendar, produce needed correspondence and communication pieces, and ensure the implementation of an effective donor recognition program.
- In collaboration with the Development Director, the Special Events Manager will work on the financial growth of all fundraising events through realistic goal-setting and strategic planning.
- Provide regular reports to the Development Director, for various presentations, including contacts, actions, and status updates regarding progress of IERMH special events in achieving its fundraising objectives.
Fundraising Events
- Lead planning, execution and evaluation of signature events, including but not limited to the Walk for Kids, Golf Tournament, Gala as well as development related events
- Provide support and guidance to the Events Coordinator in managing third-party community events, including but not limited to the creation of budgets and evaluation of event performance.
- Lead meetings and record minutes with key players for signature events including committee meetings, vendor meetings, etc.
- Solicit and secure corporate and other sponsorships for events with support of Development team
- Responsibilities may vary, but may include; budget creation and maintenance, email blast generation as it pertains to signature events, contract negotiations, sponsorship tracking, day in the life/ deck creation, develop event timelines and floor plans, support with event collateral, track donations & sponsorships, assist with vendor sourcing (food and beverage, entertainment, etc.), database management, and summary reports for all events.
Special Projects
- Work with Development Director and Events Coordinator to encourage revenue-generating “community partnerships” with businesses in the region, steward and cultivate third party fundraisers with Development team.
- Assist Development Director with donor recognition and cultivation activities.
- Collaborate with RMHCSC staff on Special Events that benefit the Chapter.
- Participate in speaking engagements and outreach as needed.
IERMH Management
- Responsible for the supervision of the Events Coordinator.
- Prepare Special Events budget and assist Development Director with the preparation of the annual revenue budget.
- Working with the Development Director, ensure that projected event revenue goals are met or exceeded and adjusting plans as necessary.
- Participate in appropriate organizations for continuing education and professional growth.
- Demonstrate ability to work with other staff, volunteers, donors, and House guests in a collaborative and compassionate manner.
- Assists with maintaining the donor and mailing databases.

Education, Work Experience, Knowledge, and Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of event experience, or a relevant combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree desired.
- Proven success in executing highly successful events and fundraising for a not-for-profit organization.
- Experience in special events and cause-related marketing is a plus.
- General knowledge and experience in office management and administrative operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, employees, and the public, and to present information effectively in both oral and written forms.
- Highly motivated self-starter with strong problem-solving skills.
- Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized, with strong time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment and willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Reasoning Ability: Demonstrate the ability to function responsibly and independently, evidenced by excellent decision-making skills, sound judgment, and confidence in exercising authority appropriately. They possess strong problem-solving skills, enabling them to address practical challenges and navigate diverse situations effectively. Their adaptability and resourcefulness are key in finding effective solutions to complex issues.
Language Skills: Ability to read, write and/or interpret general business documents and correspondence reports, and procedure manuals. Must be able to read and interpret information in English. Strong communication and presentation skills in both oral and written forms. Capable of effectively presenting information and responding to questions from diverse groups, including managers, clients, board members, families, and the general public. Ability to present facts and recommendations clearly and concisely. Candidates with multi-language skills are encouraged to apply. Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
Mathematical and Computer Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts including basic math, percentages, and discounts. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong knowledge of Excel; Ability to calculate figures and amounts. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred experience in donor tracking software, such as Raisers Edge/NXT. Other software experience desired is with Adobe, Adobe Photo Shop, and CANVA. Ability to generate and critically analyze event budgets.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Ability to lead, assist, and supervise Special Events Coordinator to ensure proper execution of duties, processes, events, and overall fundraising activities. This role will also require execution of goal setting, performance evaluations, and HR processes.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid California Driver’s License and a clean driving record are required to operate company vehicles for occasional donor or event pick-ups.
