Position Summary
The Programs Associate plays a key role in delivering the Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House Meals of Love program, ensuring a positive volunteer experience for individuals, corporate partners, and community groups at our House. This role also involves assisting with the planning and coordination of family activities, as well as supporting departmental administrative tasks, including tracking program statistics, managing budgets, and ordering supplies.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position shall include but is not limited to the following:
Meal Program
- In communication with the volunteer department, provide onsite logistical support for Meal of Love events, including kitchen and meal set-up, storage of leftovers, clean-up, and kitchen re-set. May need to assist with volunteer group check-ins, as needed.
- Pick-up Meals of Love from community partners, when required.
- Oversee pantry and kitchen supply inventory. Ensure quality food items are available and dispose of expired food items as deemed necessary, ensuring LA City requirements regarding food composting are implemented and followed at the House.
- Strategize the weekly menu of grab-and-go breakfasts and portable lunches, preparing food items when needed.
- Lead outreach to local restaurants and community partners for meal program donations.
Programing and Activities
- Support the Sr. Programs Manager in planning a calendar of family-friendly and trauma-informed activities such as yoga, story time etc. Help develop activity plans that include staffing needs, resources, and materials, providing on-site support when needed.
Administrative Support
- Support Programs Department with administrative tasks such as receiving in-kind program donations, tracking statistics, department activity reports, supply ordering, and budget tracking.

Education, Work Experience, Knowledge, and Qualifications
- High school diploma and at least three years of administrative support experience in a customer service or nonprofit setting.
- General knowledge and demonstrated experience in office operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, volunteers, and the public.
- Self-motivated with problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of people and personalities.
- Confident communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working with families who are experiencing grief and trauma is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present facts and recommendations clearly.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where the person must rely on their judgment, adaptability, and resourcefulness to find effective solutions.
Language Skills
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in English that is furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, board members, families and the public; ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. Mathematical and Computer Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts including basic math, percentages, and discounts. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Strong knowledge of Excel; Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
Supervisory Responsibilities Volunteers/Meal Groups
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A California Driver’s License is necessary for driving to pick up donations or supplies, as needed.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, talking, and hearing. Being on your feet is frequently required. You’ll often need to lift and move items up to 25 pounds. For items over 25 pounds, use team lifting techniques and ask for assistance from your supervisor or other team members. Use push/pull carts when necessary to ensure safety. While performing the duties of this job, you must be willing to work independently. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
