In 2019, Melissa faced every parent’s worst nightmare when her daughter, Mirabella, was born prematurely and spent 80 challenging days in the NICU.

Just three years later, another devastating blow came with her son Matthew’s leukemia diagnosis, which led to life-threatening complications.

During these darkest moments, the Ronald McDonald House® close to the hospital where both children were treated became their sanctuary. More than just a place to stay, it was a lifeline of compassion and support. The House provided more than shelter: It offered hope, comfort, and a sense of community when the family needed it most.

Family Support Services (FSS) was essential to the whole family’s healing, creating the opportunity for play, relaxation, and precious moments amid the medical challenges. FSS is an important reminder that healing isn’t just about medical treatment — it’s about connection, joy, and family.
