Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times was founded in 1982 to create a positive, long-lasting impact on children with cancer and their families by providing cost-free, medically supported year-round camp programs.
Position Summary: The Camp Nurse Manager is responsible for supporting the Program Team in preparation for summer camp execution. Responsibilities include recruitment, orientation, education, and support of volunteer Med Shed staff, and the training of volunteer counselors during summer Staff Development and Training (SDT) in Med Shed procedures. Additionally, responsibilities include the development and documentation of Ultra Camp procedures and guidelines for Med Shed use before and during Camp sessions.

Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position shall include but is not limited to the following:
Med Shed Staffing
- Recruitment of volunteer nurses through networking with hospitals, current Camp medical volunteers, and various organizations to meet the healthcare needs of camp sessions.
- Develop a formalized plan for onboarding and training volunteer nursing staff to the Med Shed / Camp team.
- Lead the screening, interviewing, and orientation of new Med Shed volunteer nursing staff.
- Document in-kind volunteer hours of Med Staff team for RMHCSC reporting.
Camp Session and Program Support
- Coordinates and participates in reviewing (including calling parents/caregivers) medical/pharmaceutical needs for campers before each youth session.
- Coordinates/ executes system for MAR and needs lists for registration and medication administration for Med Shed Staff.
- Responsible for onsite nursing staffing during all sessions; minimum attendance at all summer sessions of at least the first three days of a session (SDT and camper arrival day).
- Lead Med Shed orientation and counselor medication check-in during SDT of each summer session.
- Meet with Camp session Med Shed teams or session charge nurse before each session to download notes re: individual camper needs after each session to debrief the session.
Med Shed Policies and Procedures
- Organize and maintain Med Shed day to day-to-day operational guidelines and procedures
- Maintain inventory and order all necessary medical supplies and equipment.
- Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies.
- Develop and document Ultra Camp procedures and training for the Med Shed staff (ex., How to enter medications dispensed, track treatments, etc.).

Education, Work Experience, Knowledge, and Qualifications
- RN license – California required
- Minimum of a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) required
- Minimum 3 years of pediatric nursing experience (inpatient and/or outpatient); experience in hematology-oncology or emergency departments preferred
- Experience in developing policies, procedures, or educational courses preferred
- Prior experience in a residential camping program (as general or medical/nursing staff) preferred
- Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage competing priorities
- Excellent attention to detail and time management
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Flexible availability including weekdays, occasional weekends, holidays, and nights
Reasoning Ability
Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on overcoming challenges. Ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where the person must rely on their judgment, adaptability, and resourcefulness to find effective solutions.
Language Skills
The ideal candidate will have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions in English, whether provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. They should demonstrate proficiency in interpreting bills and work proposals, writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, or governmental regulations, as well as strong skills in presenting information and responding to questions from diverse audiences. Clear communication of facts and recommendations in both oral and written formats is essential. Candidates with multilingual skills are strongly encouraged to apply.
Mathematical and Computer Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts, including basic math and percentages. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Excel. Proficiency in database software is a plus.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Volunteer Med Shed Staff
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid California Driver’s License and a clean driving record are required for operating company vehicles, if needed for transporting staff or campers. Basic First Aid/CPR/AED certifications. PALS, BLS, ACLS, CPHON/CPON Certifications Desired. Must be willing to participate in the required safety training.

For items exceeding 25 pounds, team lifting techniques should be used, and assistance from a team member is required. Push/pull carts should be utilized when necessary to ensure safety, and employees must not attempt to lift, push, pull, or carry objects that are too heavy.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, you must be willing to work independently, outdoors in varying temperatures, irregular hours/shifts, weekends, and holidays, as needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
