Our mission at the Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California (herein referred to as RMHCSC or the Chapter) is to provide comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California. RMHCSC operates seven Ronald McDonald Houses, and three Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, along with Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times.
Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times was founded in 1982 to create a positive, long-lasting impact on children with cancer and their families by providing cost-free, medically supported year-round camp programs.
Facility Description
Apple Canyon Center is a year-round camp and conference facility in Southern California on 60 acres in the San Jacinto Mountains near Idyllwild. Surrounded by National Forest at 4,500 ft. elevation, it is the home of (and operated by) “Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times,” a camping program that serves children with cancer and their families. The facility has a capacity of 200+ and serves not only the Good Times programs but it is also open to outside user groups.

Site User Group Goals
To provide safe, clean, comfortable grounds /facilities to enhance the program experience for guests. Provide friendly and generous reception and services to guests, visitors, or strangers.
Position Summary
To conduct repairs, maintenance, and inspections of facilities and site systems; provide hospitality and janitorial services for guests.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The position shall include but is not limited to the following:
- Performs repairs on buildings, facility systems, and equipment.
- Maintains operation of assigned systems (swimming pool, vehicles, etc.)
- Execute routine cleaning of meeting and sleeping areas (empty trash, sweep, mop, vacuum, and stock bathroom products), respond to maintenance requests by guests; help set up for program events.
- Participates in and supports responding to daily maintenance requests and needs
- Perform general landscape maintenance (mowing, weed whacking, planting, irrigation, pond treatment, and monitoring).
- Conducts and documents routine safety inspections of facilities, systems, equipment, and grounds.
- Maintain a safe working environment and support safe working practices with co-workers, volunteers, and when executing job functions.
- Provide a friendly and generous reception and service to guests, visitors, or strangers.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education, Work Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications
- Proven ability to perform custodial and general maintenance tasks with mechanical aptitude.
- Skilled in the safe operation of hand and power tools; working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems is a plus.
- Strong communication skills; able to collaborate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, and guests.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while accepting supervision and feedback as needed.
- Experienced in outdoor work environments; physically capable of performing duties in exposed conditions.
- Committed to safety with the ability to identify and respond to environmental and workplace hazards.
- Self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Displays integrity, adaptability, patience, and professionalism in all work settings.
- Holds a valid California driver’s license and adheres to drug- and tobacco-free workplace standards.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting work orders, bills, and proposals.
- Capable of basic mathematical calculations for estimating materials and costs.
- Enthusiastic about working in a camp or retreat environment with a team-oriented mindset.
Reasoning Ability
Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on overcoming challenges. Ability to deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where the person must rely on their judgment, adaptability, and resourcefulness to find effective solutions.
Language Skills
The ideal candidate will have the ability to interpret a variety of instructions in English, whether provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. They should demonstrate proficiency in interpreting bills and work proposals, writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals, or governmental regulations, as well as strong skills in presenting information and responding to questions from diverse audiences. Clear communication of facts and recommendations in both oral and written formats is essential. Candidates with multilingual skills are strongly encouraged to apply.
Mathematical and Computer Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts, including basic math, percentages, discounts, and annual budget needs along with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid California Driver’s License and a clean driving record are required for operating company vehicles, as needed. Camping Credentials/Memberships and current basic First Aid/CPR/AED training with certifications, is a plus. Must be willing to participate in required safety training.

Physical Demands
This role is physically demanding and requires stamina for extended periods of focus, high levels of engagement, and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Employees will be required to frequently and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds. For items exceeding 25 pounds, team lifting techniques should be used, and assistance from a supervisor or team member is required. Push/pull carts should be utilized when necessary to ensure safety, and employees must not attempt to lift, push, pull, or carry objects that are too heavy.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel; talk or hear. The employee may also be required to sit frequently.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, you must be willing to work independently, outdoors in varying temperatures, irregular hours/shifts, weekends, and holidays, as needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

You will be considered an "at-will" employee, meaning that either you or RMHCSC may terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause or notice, except as otherwise required by any applicable notice provisions or RMHCSC’s written policies.
