Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Southern California (herein referred to as RMHCSC or the Chapter) is located in Los Angeles near several neighboring hospitals. Our mission is to provide comfort, care, and support to children and families in Southern California. To achieve its vision of creating a community where children and their families embrace life and healing with a sense of hope, enthusiasm, and joy, RMHCSC operates seven Ronald McDonald Houses, three and soon-to-be four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, and Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times.
Position Summary
In partnership with the Executive Director and the Director of Development, the Director of Major Gifts is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and growing new major gift donors to Ronald McDonald House Westside Los Angeles (herein referred to as RMHWLA) toward major funding initiatives and projects. The newly developed position will work closely with major donors, prospects, volunteers, the Board and executive staff to create the strongest and most effective prospect list and work collaboratively to execute proper moves management strategies to secure major gift support. Key role: The Director of Development will support the Development Team in meeting its capital campaign fundraising objectives and annual fundraising targets.
Responsibilities
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify and manage a portfolio of qualified major and planned giving donors and prospects to ensure positive and purposeful relationship development; set and carry out solicitation strategies. Major gift defined as $100K or more.
- Maintain and build a portfolio of approximately 75-100 donor prospects for major and planned gifts.
- Partner with the Director of Development on the development of strategic projects and initiatives and then on execution of strategies toward effective major gift cultivation and solicitation.
- Partner with and staff volunteers in identification, advocacy, introduction, cultivation, and solicitation toward securing major gift support.
- Ensure customized moves management plans and key relationship management assignments are created and implemented for major and planned giving donors and prospects.
- Utilize reports and strategic deliverables and tactics to facilitate moves management of prospects and to achieve goals.
- Meet specific activity, request, and fundraising targets (e.g. – spending 75% of time visiting with existing and newly identified major donor prospects; making at least 25 two-way interactions and at least four asks per month).
- Articulate the case for support, through oral and written means, so that donors engage and support the mission and vision of RMHWLA.
- Steward donors who show an interest in giving to specific projects by designing strategies to retain their interest.
- Provides annual assessment of high-impact board members, ambassadors and volunteers; alert to any/all successes and challenging areas.
- Provide timely, written reports regarding the outcome of cultivation and solicitation actions, and track activity.
- Develop case for support documents, collateral, and other request materials as needed.
Requirements:
- Appreciation and passion for the mission of Ronald McDonald House.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in non-profit development with a proven track record of at least 5 years of cultivating, soliciting, and securing six, seven, and eight-figure gifts.
- Capital campaign experience necessary.
- Must be an action-oriented, highly energetic professional with the following attributes: a track record of building donor relationships; bold thinker with a proven track record of closing gifts in the six, seven, and eight-figure range; entrepreneurial spirit; skilled at inspiring, influencing and engaging people; high emotional intelligence; collegial, collaborative and accessible; self-confident, effective, persuasive communicator; excellent listening skills, passion for the mission.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Successful solicitation of major and planned gifts of $100K level and above; successful planned giving solicitation including bequests, charitable gift annuities, trusts and working with financial planners.
- Ability to work independently and particularly to formulate creative strategies for major gifts advancement.
- Volunteer engagement experience preferred.
- Ability to work with high-impact volunteers, board members, ambassadors, and senior-level staff;
- High degree of initiative and ability to motivate and engage high-level volunteers and donors.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of autonomy and accountability and to be a team player.
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills.
- Extensive knowledge of major and planned giving vehicles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with executive staff and board members and to build productive relationships with major gifts prospects.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to remain focused on completing assignments, and strong attention to detail.
- CFRE preferred but not required.
- Experienced with Word, Excel, and donor database tools and reports.
Compensation: Compensation commensurate with experience. Anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $85,000 – $95,000.
