Why We Walk:

Dayana is a 7 year old girl from Ecuador. When she was 10 months old she was diagnosed with scoliosis which is curvature of the spine. Her mother Rosa was told that nothing could be done for Dayana, so she searched for additional help. She was finally connected to the Orthopedic Institute for Children – International Program in Los Angeles where she was seen by specialists who could treat her. The scoliosis is starting to have serious effects on Dayana - her internal organs do not have room to grow and expand because of the way her spine is curving.

Rosa and Dayana have stayed at the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House throughout her course of treatment. Dayana has had many tests, and she will have her first surgery next month. After surgery she will need to stay for approximately two months and then her doctors will evaluate her to see what additional treatment is needed.

While at the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House, Dayana is learning English, and she enjoys doing arts and craft activities with the volunteers and groups who assist at the House. “I am grateful for the friendship, love and companionship which I have found at the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House. The staff is amazing and willing to help with everything while my daughter Dayana receives medical care.” Said Rosa. We walk for Rosa and Dayana and the thousands of other children and families who stay at the Pasadena Ronald McDonald House.
