Feasts from the Heart Volunteers for the OCRMH

One of our most popular community group opportunities is our meal program called Feasts from the Heart. This is where you cook a meal for families staying at the Orange County Ronald McDonald House.

In many communities and cultures, it is traditional for friends and neighbors to prepare meals for their loved ones who are caring for a sick family member.  It is an act of kindness that translates feelings of concern into a tangible expression of human compassion. When parents return to the Ronald McDonald House after a long day at the hospital it is nice to have a hot, delicious home-cooked meal prepared by for them.

Steps to cooking a meal at the Ronald McDonald House:

  • Get on the calendar.  We recommend that you have several possible dates in mind when trying to book your meal.  Commonly, we are booked out several months in advance for dinners, though we do have cancellations. You may want to consider doing a breakfast, or ask about bringing a meal for one of our Ronald McDonald Family Rooms! You can book a meal by clicking on the Get Involved button at the top of the page.
  • Your group must be limited to a maximum of 12 people, including both adults and children. If your group includes younger children, you may want to consider having them come to the house and bake rather than coming to prepare an entire meal. This is called our “McBakers” Program. You can book a McBakers opportunity by clicking on the Get Involved link at the top of the page.
  • Be creative with your menu!  For example, maybe you want to plan a luau during the summer using our outside BBQ with music and games, or how about a bingo night?  If you need more suggestions, please ask!
  • Make sure you receive a confirmation from us via fax or mail.  If not, please call a day or two before you’re scheduled to cook to ask any last minute questions and confirm that we have you on the calendar.
  • Have fun!
