  • What does The Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House do?

    The Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House is a place where the families of Kern County pediatric or NICU patients can go to take a break from the hospital environment. A” home away from home” that gives the non-hospitalized part of the family a sense of normalcy in a time when their world is upside down.

  • What does the House provide for families?

    The House provides:

    • Three sleeping rooms for families who have traveled more than 25 miles from their residence for care
    • A living room for families who need a break from the “hospital environment”
    • A place for a quick shower or nap during the day for target families who are not sleeping overnight
    • A resource center for families
    • Support from caring staff members and volunteers
    • Support from other families in similar situations
  • What criteria must families meet to stay at the House?

    To be an overnight guest, you must have a child receiving medical treatment at any hospital in or around Bakersfield and live at least 25 miles away from the House. To use the House during the day, you must have a child receiving medical treatment at any hospital in or around Bakersfield and a need to take a nap, a shower, or do laundry. Amenities for both overnight and day use guests include 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, a shower, laundry room, television, a DVD player, a Wii, and toiletries.

  • Who owns and operates the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House?

    The Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House is owned and operated by Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California, and is governed by a Board of Trustees. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California is governed by a Board of Directors who are responsible for program development, standards and operations.

  • How is the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House funded?

    Generous supporters like you help fund the House. The majority of our programming funds come from individuals, organizations and businesses.

  • Doesn't McDonald's fund the Bakersfield Ronald McDonald House?

    Local McDonald's restaurant owner/operators and the McDonald’s corporation through fundraising efforts and individual contributions generously fund portions of the annual operating costs of the House.
